Reply from Robert Booth, Director of Glasgow City Council Land Services, advising that he has not received any official plans for the expansion of the SGH site. 2) Reply from the Scottish Parliament Health Committee advising that the committee will be addressing the subject of workforce planning of allied health professionals including physiotherapists. 3) Letter from Glasgow City Council stating that the GGNHS has agreed to purchase the QPR site. The first instalment of £7 million has been paid the balance of approx £7 million will be paid in the next financial year. Treasurer’s ReportTreasurer’s Report; the current amount in the bank is £1818.24. It was agreed to pay the annual membership to the Scottish Health Campaigns Network amounting to £50. Health Board meetingHealth Board meeting of 20 December 2005; It was reported that important papers were distributed at the meeting thus observers had no opportunity to read and digest. The Forum raised this issue with Board in March 2005 and it was agreed that a letter should be written to the Health Minister querying this procedure. Note: the letter was acknowledged by the Minister and passed to Sir John Arbuthnott. His response acknowledged that one or two Board members had raised the issue and as a result the papers have been sent out seven days in advance and any to follow papers five days in advance. He is aware of only one occasion when papers were distributed on the day. Complaints about the NHSComplaints about the NHS; The Citizens Advice Scotland have not responded to our latest e-mail asking for the progress on the proposed framework put forward by the CAS to deal with the public’s complaints against the NHS. Mansionhouse Unit of the VictoriaMansionhouse Unit of the Victoria; Concern was expressed at the number of rehabilitation beds to be provided at the ACAD. Originally 60 beds were planned and this has been reduced by approx 14 beds that are now designated overnight stay beds following day surgery procedures. At present there are over 200 beds in the Mansionhouse Unit providing local accommodation for patients. Will there be additional accommodation provided at the SGH? How will visitors be given assistance in getting to SGH? Student nurse intake
Student nurse intake; The Health Minister announced that the intake in the number of trainee nurses is to be reduced for 2006/07 from 3500 to 3325. “No one wants to see so many nursing students coming out of training that they have difficulty finding posts.” He also stated “Student Nurse Intake Planning (SNIP) is a long established process which provides a workforce planning methodology for setting student nursing and midwifery intakes on an annual basis”. Our comment; if this long established process is reliable why has there been a shortage of nurses? South Monitoring Group
South Monitoring Group; James Sandeman is in correspondence with Stewart Maxwell MSP re the role of Audit Scotland in annual reviews of the NHSGG‘s Acute Services Review as stipulated by the Scottish Executive in September 2005 (Proceedings13641, Chisholm’s amendment SIM-3375.1 refers).
